To PEE or Not to PEE

***SERIOUSLY***

So here is the quick version of the story that inspired this piece of art: While at dinner with the in-laws, we asked how their new neighbors were. Dad said they were great, except for when "he poops on my lawn". To mom's dismay and embarrassment, we busted up laughing. What a random thing to say! So it's been the "phrase of the day" any time we see each other. I thought it would be funny for Father's Day to make him a sign that said "Don't Poop On My Lawn". I had it all planned out and it was going to cost me absolutely nothing. I took a scrap of wood from the pile left over from the deck, and a magnifying glass. It took me a little over an hour (mostly because it was a little cloudy now and then). I think it turned out EXACTLY as I wanted it to be. Only there was one problem that Justin pointed out a few hours later when he got home...do you see what it is? I wrote PEE instead of POOP...Justin told me that's what I get for staying up after a 12 hour night shift instead of going to sleep.

So...since it's been raining ever since, I had to go to the craft store and buy a wood burning kit. Thanks to Michael's for taking Robert's 50% off coupons, I only had to pay about $15 for the whole kit. I didn't know that they made such a thing...I guess I just assumed that everyone used a magnifying glass to burn wood...anyways, I redid it, but I don't like how it turned out.

You can see the difference in the frame above and below...I think that the one below turned out really sloppy. Oh well... it was a good idea anyway.

The Corner Woods

Justin's grandma painted this picture of the old car. I LOVE everything about this picture so much that last year I painted an accent wall just to go with it. This year I've decided to spruce up that corner a bit.

I found some fake trees and this AWESOME crate. I was going to put the crate in the kitchen to help out my "country kitchen" theme, but I think it just fits in so well and helps give height varience to the trees.

I found the picture frame at DI for 50 centavos! I took a pretty cool picture of the in-laws place up in Idaho and I plan to make it sepia and put it in this frame and hang it on the wall.

I think that overall the corner looks pretty good, especially with Justin's rocking chair (he made it while we were engaged).

If you can think of anything else I can put in this corner, please share.

Coke...the beverage of LIFE

If you're looking for an inexpensive gift idea for a coke-a-holic, try nailing holes into the lids of the coke bottles. Add salt to one and pepper to the other.

Sand

Justin and I have some sand that has meaning to the both of us. I found some cute little jars to display the sand in. Now all I need to do is get some cork tops.

Stars

I got these STARS for really cheap. I knew I wanted to paint them and put them up for decoration, but I wasn't sure where in the house, or what color. With the 4th of July fast approaching I decided to do red, white, and blue, and I think that it goes nicely with the rest of that corner of the room.

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie

So...have you ever read the book "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" by Laura Numeroff...you'll understand why I did this project. I was looking for chalk for the plates (see earlier post) and I was so completely frustrated with how disorganized mom's "craft" cupboard was that I decided to clean it up a bit. I saw how many paint brushes she had just rolling around up there and decided to bring out the 3rd grader in me and make a holder out of a tin can and scrap paper. For some reason every time I look at it I think of chocolate. That should be a new book, "If You Give Ginny Chocolate"

Photo Box

So, I forgot to take a "before" picture, but you can kind of see how plain white the photo box was before. I was going to try to sell it at the garage sale last month, but decided to keep it to practice painting on. I just used some acrylic paint called "mud" and wiped it off before it was completely dry. This left paint in the cracks and corners. It turned out pretty cool. I don't think that the pictures do it any justice.

Plates

I got this idea from "Poppies At Play". I went to the hardware store and bought a can of chalkboard paint. It said to let it dry for about 24 hours, then to cover the whole surface with chalk and erase it with a felt eraser. I did this on the "Pie" plate, but I didn't on the other two. I think I like it better without the chalky coat. ***NOTE: don't leave it sitting out where people can touch it before you are able to spray with a protectant finish , otherwise your pretty art work will smear off***
